Faind is a utility for searching texts and files via the command line, and can be very useful when looking for files that fit certain criteria, and then run operations on them.



You can look for files in a hierarchical directory structure, or in other files or compressed packets (on this point Faind allows all the popular formats, including ZIP, RAR, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, 7ZIP, ARJ), in web servers (HTTP or FTP), LANs (it includes an integrated port searcher) ... as you can see it is a very flexible program, that allows you to work in diverse areas and with support. You can also print all the information you find on those files.



Faind can look for the following types of file: TXT (any type pf text, plain text, ASCII, utf8, utf16, European or Asiatic codes, etc), RTF, PDF, HTML, XML, MS Word DOC, Excel XLS, Visio, PowerPoint, Access databases, OpenOffice SWX documents, DBF, MP3, OggVorbis, JPEG image file tags, etc.



On the other hand, the search results can also be stored in various formats: plain text (utf8), HTML (similar to the page you get when doing Internet searches) or XML schemas.



When doing searches, the Faind engine lets you use regular expressions, wild-card characters, proximity operators and boolean operators (OR, AND, NOT). This gives you an enormous flexibility when searching for anything. And finally, a surprising function: a morphological analyzer that lets you distinguish if the texts are in Russian, French, English or Spanish.
